About ‘The Fantasy Dutchman’

So, who is this ‘Fantasy Dutchman’? I am Daniel, a Dutch (dûh) guy who started watching American Football in 2018. When watching it for the first time, I fell in love immediately with the tactical side of the game. And RedZone helped because I didn’t have to sit and wait a lot of time for commercial breaks.

I was invited to my first Fantasy Football league in the 2019 season, where I had little idea of how to approach a fantasy draft. ‘Luckily’ I got the 1st overall pick in my debut season. I drafted Saquon Barkley, but he was more injured than playing. That was my first emotional introduction to Fantasy Football. I have even retrieved the results of my first draft.

After a few seasons of learning more and more about Fantasy Football, I found some podcasts which helped me a lot. So much even, that I won the championship in back-2-back seasons. The podcasts were talking a lot about data: what data is important, but also what data is very fluky.

Because of my interests, I was not only falling in love with the game, but also with the data behind it. I started investigating data myself, tried to replicate datasets I heard of in the podcasts and found out how much datasets can be retrieved online to execute your own research. I got a lot of energy from it and thought ‘Why shouldn’t I share this with more people?‘. And that’s where The Fantasy Dutchman was born. Because I’m on the ‘other side of the pond’, it’s sometimes difficult to keep up with all the news, but I can get a head start for other news, so it’s a positive but also a challenge.

And yes, being from The Netherlands brings some different humor to the table 🇳🇱

What I believe

Fantasy football should be fun for everyone, not just the people with hours to spend on research. My job is to do the digging so you don’t have to, and to present it in a way that makes sense whether you’re a casual player or a competitive manager.

If you want sharp insights, deep analysis, and a fresh perspective from across the pond you’re in the right place.
